The placebo effect is a measurable, or felt improvement in health when in fact there is none. The “placebo effect” can be very powerful. People want to believe what they are taking or using is really working, even when the product isn’t. All progesterone creams are not the same. Most of the progesterone creams sold on the internet do not contain USP prescription grade progesterone.
Progesterone’s role in countering estrogen dominance is now widely known and understood. But many women don’t realize the many other positive effects of progesterone, which include returning blood pressure to normal, burning body fat for energy, safeguarding cell membrane functions, and protecting against hypertension.
Excessively heavy bleeding during a period is referred to as “flooding.” Flooding is generally defined as a menstrual flow greater than a super pad or super tampon each hour for more than eight consecutive hours. This can occur during perimenopause, especially during an anovulatory cycle—one where you did not ovulate, and whenever progesterone is deficient or absent.
Progesterone enhances the receptors of estrogen. When progesterone levels are raised, estrogen receptors become more sensitive so a need for estrogen does not exist. Most women taking estrogen to prevent hot flashes and vaginal dryness find after 4 months of using progesterone cream vaginal dryness and hot flushes subside.
Ever since British physician Dr. Katherine Dalton pioneered the concept of excess estrogen as the main cause of PMS, women suffering from PMS have been asking; How do you know when your estrogen levels are too high and your progesteorne levels are too low? There are tests to determine estrogen and progesterone levels; however, both hormone levels are in constant fluctuation, changing virtually every hour. It’s impossible to obtain a reading that would give an accurate answer to the quesiton. Women have to self-dose with progesterone cream, relying on the response of their bodies to determine just how much progesterone cream they actually need to apply.
Women and men, are exposed to estrogen dominance daily. Estrogen is created in the process of manufacturing aluminimun cans. This estrogen leeks into the food within the can. Anything wrapped in tin or aluminimum foil leeks estrogen into food. Plastics used in manufacturing car dash-boards and car seats leek estrogen. This constant exposure is why women are increasingly estrogen dominant at ever younger ages and why women in North America are so deficient in progesterone.
Estrogen dominance does not necessarily mean a woman has too much estrogen; it simply means her estrogen levels are relatively higher than progesterone, creating a hormone imbalance known as estrogen dominance.
Estrogen left unopposed by progesterone greatly increases the risk of endometrial cancer and promotes breast cancer. There is no doubt whatsoever that estrogen left unopposed in the woman’s body increases her chances of endometrial and breast cancer 3 to 10 fold.
Estrogen promotes growth of the uterine lining while progesterone stabilizes this tissue. Unchecked by progesterone, a uterine lining constantly stimulated by estrogen will grow, thicken, and produce abnormal cells. Uterine cancer develops in a significant percentage of women on ERT or “unopposed estrogen.”
Hot flashes are causes by vaso-motor changes. “Vaso” refers to blood flow and “motor” refers to movement. Vasomotor changes occur when blood flow suddenly shifts from one part of the body to another. Progesterone effectively reduces and even stops hot flashes for many women.
